Who are we?
A group of motivated students who are passionate about advancing vehicle technology through building solar-powered race cars.
Team
Our team is comprised of over 100 students from over 14 disciplines, ranging from engineering and science to management.
Competitions
We compete in the American Solar Challenge and Formula Sun Grand Prix against collegiate teams from across North America. We placed 6th in FSGP 2017 and won the Most Improved Award. In 2021, we completed the American Solar Challenge. Most recently, we placed 3rd in our category at FSGP 2025. We hope to continue growing in our successes.
Cars
Our previous cars, all single-occupant, were SJ-1 Endeavour, SR-2 Odyssey, and SR-3 Endurance. This past summer, we competed with our first multi-occupant car, SR-4 Aurora. SR-4 is the first ever North American four-seater solar car to race in FSGP.
In short, what do we do?
Design solar cars.
Every GTSR vehicle since SJ-1 has been 100% designed, validated, and simulated by the student members. This provides a fantastic opportunity for engineering and science majors to develop their skills with real-world problems.
Build solar cars.
Every GTSR vehicle since SJ-1 has been fabricated and tested by the student members with minimal outside contract services. This hands-on approach significantly improves design-for-manufacture skills while delivering a lower-cost, higher performing vehicle.
Race solar cars.
Our Strategy team utilizes detailed live telemetry along with cutting edge, in-house simulation and optimization software to determine best race strategy. With this, we can go faster for longer and adapt to constantly evolving situations.
